so every morning we start with a student asked question of the day…

today…”what will you do over the weekend?”

an answer: “i will collect broken things and watch my fire ant farm.”

so we just found out that our new friends danny and emily are having triplets! oh wow! check out this fun site the kapics to stay updated!

we just finished cleaning and semi-decorating the apartment for our pumpkin carving party…and it is ready for you to check it out on our wedblog.

pay no mind to the chainsaw and screaming in the background.

after talking to daniel skipper (and reading an email from becky) it looks like the fires have missed pondo and dan and becky’s house. great news! the director of calvary chapel camp has allowed firefighters to use their water resource so he has had access up and down the mountain. he has checked on camp and has seen no damage. he lives in the same neighborhood as dan and becky so he has been driving by their house to check on it. also…no signs of damage. wow. what a relief.

becky told me that the santa ana’s are supposed to pick up again on tuesday. which is never a good sign.so it’s not over yet. however…the slide fire has jumped from 0% contained to 15%.

the good people at trinity church in redlands and rock harbor have rallied around dan and becky to help provide them with accommodations. it looks like they will be out of their house for at least 2 weeks.

all in all…i am thankful for this “good” news. lets hope it continues to get better.

Direct eye witness: green valley lake road major stand took place today to save the calvary chapel camp and camp cedar crest. Both camps have been saved thanks to the work of firefighters. Estimated 12 engines and two dozers responded and were able to save both camps.

if you are familiar with the geography of the mountain…camp ceder crest is the camp that borders pondo…and calvary chapel is a mile down the road. we are still unsure of dan and becky’s house.

so as you know…the fires in so cal are out of control. i talked with becky today and they still aren’t sure if their house has been spared. i could not even imagine the feeling. what do you take? what do you leave?

becky and aaron both said they think pondo is ok. but the whole mountain is basically on fire. it’s been a rough day today. your mind can’t help think about the amazing memories…it has to still be there. it has to. i have been checking rimoftheworld.net for the latest updates. i am angered at this:

Firefighters and law enforcement are investigating reports of a possible arsonist between Camp Seely in Valley of Enchantment along Highway 138. According to reports, a witness saw and individual trying to start a fire, then flee. It appears that the individual was unsuccessful in the attempt. Deputies made an arrest at Highway 173 and Los Flores Ranch near Silverwood Lake at 9:19 PM.

my eyes fill up every time i think…why doesn’t god just make it rain? why?

well i am not one to rant and rave about politics…but al gore winning the nobel peace prize?

THE Nobel Peace Prize committee today turned its sights on the battle against climate change by giving the 2007 award to former US vice president Al Gore and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
Gore has reinvented himself as a climate warrior since failing in his bid to become US president in 2000.

hummm…now i think it is great to help fight global warming… but if this man ends up running for president next year…well i will be sad about these “obvious” intentions.
