synonym situation

i had the following question on a test today:

(circle the correct letter for the word that has the same meaning to the word in italics.)

an imaginary friend

a. best
b. kind
c. real
d. make-believe

(answer is d)

a large percentage of my class circled (a) best.

should i be concerned?
