five months
February 17, 2012 at 10:03 pm | Posted in baby diz, crazy things i buy, hazel's month day | Leave a commentdon’t be confused. hazel is 6 months. almost 7 months. i am behind.
we have discussed this.
we had a wonderful christmas together. very low-key because it was on a sunday and jasen had to work. our church had a baby dedication in our service, so we decided to dedicate hazel. uncle matt, aunt allie, baby ethan, uncle ryan and auntie sam came to see her on her special day.
i dressed her up in a puffy red dress with flowers. very uncharacteristic of me to do. but come on, you have to do it sometimes.
it’s for the grandmas. *cough, cough*
(you can easily tell that these pictures are much better than my silly iPhone pictures. my brother, the serious photographer, blessed us with them.)
after the service the shillings came over to eat jasen’s famous breakfast sandwiches and monkey bread.
yum. yum.
we decided to forgo presents for her since she couldn’t open them anyway, but we did splurge a little on a couple of things:
like mommy and me snowflake toms.
and the sweet seat. (however, i did not pay $84. that would be cray-cray. thanks to a sweet deal from opensky.com and a few credits, i was able to get it for $20ish dollars.)
and i couldn’t resist…
lucy’s socks by trumpette. i get more complements on these socks then any other thing she wears. and how could i not?
they are SO CUTE.
for new years we went to a local restaurant called fox and goose public house. it is a wonderful english style pub/restaurant that serves delicious food. if we are in town, we think we will make it a tradition. we also tried out a new coffee shop, and we kept with the british tradition and walked to our local pub and celebrated the english new year at 4 pm. just our style. we tried to go over a friend’s house in the evening, but didn’t last long. we’re old.
and kinda boring.
hazel has been growing big and strong. well, she is definitely not big, but she is learning more things.
we went to disneyland again with the shillings and hazel showed cousin E around town.
she learned how to hold her bottle. because obviously we are not doing it fast enough.
she learned how to hold a conversation with herself:
how to fold laundry: (i call this her anthropologie baby photo shoot.)
and she has taught herself to read.
she was never really into toys before, but as you can tell…she is enjoying them now.
2011 running recap

man. i am so behind. here we are well into february, and i am just now getting this post together. shesh.
2011 was a different for me in regards to running. well, 2011 was a different time for me in regards to everything.
throughout the entire year, i was either pregnant, or postpartum with a newborn. i tried to keep my running going throughout, but i struggled a bit. mostly in the latter part of the year. because running after childbirth is hard.
like, really hard. so instead of complaining about my lady parts, i will practice my kegels and pray my pelvic floor muscles make a full recovery.
and all tha jazz.
i started in march with some research about running while pregnant. i found a totally amazing running skirt that i lived in for many, many, many months. i would say i miss the days of maternity pants/skirts and the like. but who am i kidding? i still wear them.
elastic waists for life! weeeeeeest side!
in may, i ran a half marathon 7 months pregnant.
in june i ran a 5k with my friend jackie. i am just now realizing i never wrote a post about it. to sum it up, it was jackie’s first race and she did awesome. she also takes some really great pictures.
i also wrote about what i was listening to in a run mix, 2011.
closer to 8.5 months or maybe 9, i made a promise to my mom that i would stop running. and i was pretty good on my promise. however, i did throw one in there every now and again just to prove i could do it.
(don’t tell.)
then came my pride and joy:
after hazel was born i took the recommended 6 weeks off to recover. i talked about bringing running back, and soon after, i began training for the CIM relay. jasen, jackie and i ran the marathon as a relay team. (with some help of a few race crashers for support.)
because i can’t be bothered with writing individual blog posts for each race, it looks like i took the lazy easy way out, and lumped them into hazel’s month day posts. so, here you can readall about my 2nd half marathon of the year, and the 5k 10k we did on thanksgiving. in the rain.
i also joined daily mile to help keep track of my runs. i have learned the hard lesson with nike+, and its all too often unreliability. i like daily mile because i can input workouts of all sorts and it sends me a weekly email about my progress. people can comment on your activities and send support. i guess it is a lot like facebook for runners. they also sent me a year-end report of 2011:
i am pretty proud of myself for almost running 500 miles. that was my goal in 2008.
i am not too sure what 2012 hold for me and running. for the past month and 15 days, all i have been doing is walking. it is all i feel like doing. i think i will get there again. i may make 500 miles a challenge for this year too. i need something to keep me motivated and excited. i may be facing a running burn out.
we’ll see what this year holds.
who am i kidding? most likely a half marathon.
